GEN 2 TABLES AND CODES

GEN 2.1 MEASURING SYSTEM, AIRCRAFT MARKINGS, HOLIDAYS

1 UNITS OF MEASUREMENT

Units of measurement as contained in ICAO Annex 5 will be applicable in Finland in aeronautical telecommunication service, in the AIP and in NOTAM. Significant vertical distances are given in feet (FT).

Mitattava suure / Measurement of Yksiköt / Units

Matka lentosuunnistuksessa, paikkailmoituksissa jne. - yleensä pitempi kuin 2-3 meripeninkulmaa

Distances used in navigation, position reporting etc. - generally in excess of 2 to 3 nautical miles

MERIPENINKULMA JA KYMMENNYKSET

NAUTICAL MILES AND TENTHS

Suhteellisen lyhyet matkat kuten ne, jotka liittyvät lentopaikkoihin (esim. kiitoteiden pituudet)

Relatively short distances such as those relating to aerodromes (e.g. runway lengths)

HOURS AND MINUTES. THE DAY OF 24 HOURS BEGINNING AT MIDNIGHT 0000 UTC.

2 TIME SYSTEM

2.1. Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is used in the air traffic and aeronautical telecommunications services and in documents published by the Aeronautical Information Service.
Time checks will be given to the nearest half minute. The clocks used in the air traffic control service are accurate +/- 5 SEC.
Summer time will be kept in Finland annually between the last Sunday in March 0100 UTC and the last Sunday in October 0100 UTC.
When changing over to the summer time period the local time will be advanced by one hour. When changing back to the Finnish standard time the local time will be set back by one hour.
2.2. The relation between the local time and UTC is during the Finnish standard time UTC + 2 HR. During the summer time period the relation is UTC + 3 HR.
2.3. Both standard time and summer time in UTC are published in AIP FINLAND parts GEN, ENR and AD. The summer time is given in brackets, e.g. 0500-1500 UTC (0400-1400 UTC).

3 GEODETIC REFERENCE DATUM

3.1. Geographical coordinate system
WGS84 (World Geodetic System 1984) coordinate reference system is used in the Finnish AIP and aeronautical charts. EUREF-FIN geodetic datum (of the European Terrestrial Reference System 1989 (ETRS89) datum ensemble) and its coordinate reference system is used as the WGS84 realization.
Coordinate reference system: WGS84 (ETRS89)
Coordinate System: geodetic 2D
Datum: EUREF-FIN (ETRS89)
Ellipsoid: GRS80
EPSG: 4258
Geographical coordinates are expressed in degrees, minutes and seconds and, when necessary, tenths and hundredths of seconds. E.g. 600849.21N 0250451.86E means 60 degrees, eight minutes and 49.21 seconds North, 25 degrees, four minutes and 51.86 seconds East.
3.1.1. Area of application
The entire Finnish territory and the airspace over it including the airspace over the international waters within the limits of Finnish flight information region.
3.2. Vertical reference system
In the Finnish AIP and aeronautical charts the height information is based on national N2000 vertical reference system. N2000 heights are gravity-related normal heights and correspond to MSL.

Vertical reference system: N2000
EPSG: 3900

3.2.1. Geoid undulation
For each runway threshold and aerodrome elevation position also geoid undulation (GUND) is published. GUND values are based on EGM96 (Earth Gravitational Model 1996). The accuracy of EGM96 in Finland is approximately 15 CM. More accurate national geoidmodel FIN2005 is available at National Land Survey of Finland website.
Note: Website in Finnish only.
3.3. Magnetic variation
Magnetic variation values are based on model "International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF)".

4 AIRCRAFT NATIONALITY AND REGISTRATION MARKS

The nationality mark of aircraft registered in Finland consists of the letters OH. The nationality mark is followed by a hyphen and a registration mark consisting of three letters, e.g. OH-AAA or three/four numbers, e.g. OH-123. The nationality mark of ultra light aircraft is followed by a hyphen and a registration mark consisting of the letter U and three numbers, e.g. OH-U123.
